A Pair of Soulful Eyes Just Appeared Over the Edge of the Bed

AI imagedachshundred dachshundbedroom

Just over the edge of a rumpled grey blanket, a pair of soulful brown eyes appears. This red Dachshund puppy has propped itself up on the bed, chin resting on the fabric, ears flowing in soft, wavy tufts down both sides of its face. A few wispy hairs stick up on top of its head like it just woke up from a nap, which it probably did. Pillows and a chunky knit throw are piled behind it, and the bedroom fades into soft natural light. The expression says it all: is it time to get up yet?

Whether to let a puppy sleep in your bed is a personal choice, and plenty of owners love it. For Dachshunds, though, there's an important caveat. Jumping down from beds and couches is one of the common ways these long-backed dogs strain their spines. Using pet stairs or a ramp, or lifting your puppy on and off, can go a long way toward protecting its back. Make sure to support both the chest and the rear end whenever you pick it up. If you prefer your bed stay dog-free, a comfortable crate or dog bed right beside yours can help a puppy feel close and secure overnight.

Judging by that hopeful look, this little one has already decided the bed is the best place in the house. It's going to be hard to argue with a face like that.
