The Summer Grass Is Taller Than These Four Puppies, and That's Half the Fun
The grass is taller than they are, and that's half the fun. Four fawn puppies sit in a loose row in a patch of long summer grass, seed heads swaying above their ears. The pup on the far left gazes off to the side, the next one stares straight ahead with wide eyes, the third has turned for a profile pose, and the smallest at the end peeks out from behind his siblings with one ear flopped down. A white-sided house and a wooden fence stand behind them on a soft, overcast day.
Long grass is a wonderful playground for puppies, but it's also prime territory for fleas and ticks. These parasites can cause itching, skin problems, and in some cases spread illness, and small dogs can be especially uncomfortable with even a few. After outdoor play, it's a good idea to run your hands over your puppy's coat, paying attention to the ears, neck, armpits, and between the toes. Keeping the lawn mowed helps reduce hiding spots. Many flea and tick preventives are available, but not all are suitable for very young or very small puppies, so ask your vet which product and dose is right for yours.
This quartet doesn't seem worried about anything at all. They're too busy taking in the big, green world, one blade of grass at a time.
Four tiny explorers, one overgrown lawn, and a whole summer of adventures waiting.
