Four Puppies Fell Asleep Under the Christmas Tree Before Anyone Noticed
Under the sweeping branches of a Christmas tree, four cream puppies have curled together in a round woven bed. Their fur is fluffy and pale, ears tucked, noses nestled into the backs of siblings. Pine needles hang just above them, and a corner of the room glows quietly, with a gray knit blanket nearby. It is a small holiday scene, full of calm.
The holidays can be wonderful for pets, but a Christmas tree brings a few cautions. Tree water may contain bacteria or additives that upset a dog's stomach, and pine needles, if chewed or swallowed, can irritate the mouth and stomach. Tinsel, ribbon, and breakable ornaments are also risky, so keep low branches simple and the floor tidy.
Puppies are curious chewers, so cords from lights should be hidden or covered, and the tree should be anchored so it cannot tip. If you have a young dog, a gate around the tree can keep everyone safe. Ask your vet if you have questions about holiday foods and decorations in a home with pets.
For these four, there is nothing to worry about at the moment. They are asleep, warm, and quiet, and the tree is simply a ceiling of green. If any of them dreams of presents, it is probably of toys and the next long nap. The tree can wait; the nap cannot.
