Five Bulldog Puppies Huddled Together on Their First Patch of Snow
Five Bulldog puppies are bunched together on a light dusting of snow in front of an old wooden shed. Their coats are fawn and white, their wrinkled faces are turned toward the middle of the group, and a coil of rope and a pair of boots sit in the background. A few of them look up with wide eyes, as if wondering what the white stuff is.
Cold weather needs care for any puppy, but especially for Bulldogs. They have short coats and little body fat, so they can chill quickly. Keep snow outings very brief, dry their paws and bellies afterward, and watch for shivering or lifting of paws, which are signs it is time to go inside. Salt and ice melt can irritate paws, so wipe them off.
Bulldogs also have breathing quirks, and extreme cold or heat can make things harder. A warm indoor spot with a soft bed is best for most of the day. Talk to your vet about how to keep your Bulldog comfortable in your climate, and about when a coat or sweater might help.
In this moment, the five seem to be sharing warmth by sheer closeness. The snow is new and strange, but together it is easy to be brave. They look like a tiny huddle of friends who plan to head inside soon, to a warm blanket and a long nap.
