The Weimaraner Litter Turned the Living Room Rug Into a Nursery
A fluffy cream sheepskin rug has become a nursery for a heap of silver Weimaraner puppies. They lie tangled together in a gray, wrinkly pile, noses tucked against each other's backs, the biggest one sprawled in front with a paw stretched toward the camera. Everyone's eyes are shut. Around them are a sofa, a basket of blankets, a dog bowl, and a scatter of everyday living room clutter.
Piling up is natural for a litter. Puppies sleep together for warmth and comfort, and the closeness is reassuring when they are young. Soft surfaces like a wool-style rug are appealing, though pet owners should watch that little ones do not chew and swallow loose fibers. A washable blanket is often an easier choice for bedding, and puppies need a spot that stays warm and free of drafts.
Weimaraner puppies grow fast. Those smooth gray coats and long legs fill out within months, and the pups that look so tiny now will be strong, leggy adolescents before long. Feeding a good puppy food in measured meals, and keeping up with vet checkups and vaccinations, gives them a healthy start. Your vet can advise on amounts and schedules.
For the moment, nobody is racing around or tugging on anything. It is a rare, quiet scene, and the rug seems to know it is holding something precious.
