Five Weimaraner Puppies Wore Themselves Out on a Patchwork Quilt

A colorful patchwork quilt has been spread out on the grass, and a pile of silver Weimaraner puppies has fallen asleep on it. Their wrinkly faces rest on each other's backs, eyelids shut, ears folded neatly. The blue, red, and cream squares make a cheerful backdrop for all that gray, and a wooden fence and a few leafy plants stand guard in the background.

Napping outside on a mild day can be lovely, but puppies need a little help staying comfortable. Weimaraners have short, thin coats with no thick undercoat, so they do not hold heat well in the cold and can sunburn on pale skin in strong sun. A shaded spot, a fresh bowl of water, and a blanket underfoot are simple ways to keep them cozy. Bring them in if the weather turns.

Quilts and blankets also give puppies a familiar scent to settle on, which can ease them into new places. Washing bedding regularly keeps it fresh, and checking for loose threads matters, because puppies like to chew and swallow things they should not. A sturdy, tightly stitched blanket is usually a better choice than one with fraying edges. Shaking it out before bedtime also clears any burrs or bugs from the grass.

The pups have tuckered themselves out completely. Whatever games came before this nap were clearly very important and very tiring.
