A Weimaraner Puppy Has Been Digging Through the Toy Box
From behind the wall of a wooden toy box, a silver Weimaraner puppy peers out with a very innocent face. Inside the box lie a stuffed bear, a yellow dinosaur, a blue star, and a few wooden blocks, all looking a bit chewed on. A cream sofa, a plush bunny, and a pile of clothes and blankets fill the sunny room beyond.
A toy box is full of fun for a puppy, but a little sorting helps. Dogs and children's toys are not the same, and small parts like button eyes, squeakers, and stuffing can be swallowed. Choose toys made for dogs, check them often for damage, and rotate a few at a time so they stay interesting. If a puppy shreds a toy, take it away, and call your vet if you think any pieces were eaten.
Puppies often carry things around, which is a natural behavior. Weimaraners in particular like to hold things in their mouths because of their retrieving background. Teaching a pup a trade game, where it swaps one item for a treat, makes it easier to take things back safely. Giving the dog its own toy box teaches it which items belong to it.
This one seems to have found the best collection in the house and has no plans to leave. The box is clearly the dog's now.
