Four Lemon and White Beagle Puppies Went to War Over One Sock
One gray sock has become the most valuable thing on the patio. Four lemon and white Beagle puppies pull from four directions, with one grip at the heel, one at the toe and two more leaning in with bright, determined eyes. Their cream and tan fur looks soft against the gray concrete, and their ears flap with each tug. A flowerpot and a rusty rail wait behind them, and nobody has any plan to let go.
Tug is a fun game, but a sock is a risky toy. Swallowed fabric can block a dog's intestines and may need surgery, so pick a proper rope or tug toy. Teach your puppy to drop things on cue by trading for a treat, and always stop the game if it gets too rough. Beagles are persistent and strong for their size, and group play like this helps them learn bite control. If a puppy swallows a sock or other fabric, call your vet right away.
Because Beagles love to scavenge, a tidy house with socks off the floor makes everyone safer.
Whoever wins this tug-of-war, the sock has definitely lost. Once the sock finally goes limp, the puppies will wander off, chests heaving and tails wagging, each convinced that they won. Everything about the scene says that the world is a friendly place and there is plenty of time.
