The Laundry Basket Now Belongs to One Very Serious Basset Pup
The laundry basket was meant for clean clothes, but a lemon and white Basset Hound puppy has moved in. He rests his chin on a paw with big, serious eyes aimed up at the camera, his ears falling in two long folds over the rim. Gray blankets pillow around him, a plaid throw hangs over a sofa in the background, and a pile of clothes waits on the wooden floor beyond.
Dogs are often drawn to baskets, boxes, and bins, and laundry is especially popular. The warmth and smell of familiar clothes feels reassuring to a puppy, since your scent is comforting to a dog who is learning to feel safe in a new home. If you notice your pup stealing socks or sleeping in dirty laundry, it often means they simply want to be near you.
It is worth watching for a habit of chewing, though. Socks, underwear, and fabric can be swallowed, and they can cause blockages that need a vet. Offer an old t-shirt you do not mind losing, along with plenty of proper chew toys, and keep laundry in a spot the pup cannot reach if they like to chew. Plastic baskets can also be chewed, so supervise any new favorite.
This little one is not chewing anything. He has simply found a soft nest that smells like home, and he looks completely at ease. The laundry can wait. Right now, the most important job in the house is being the most wrinkled, most irresistible puppy in the basket.
