Grandma and Grandpa Were Laughing on the Tailgate. Misty Had Her Own Job.
Grey skies hang low over a quiet farm field, with fence posts marching off into the distance and a garden shed tucked in the corner. On the dropped tailgate of an old pickup, Grandpa in his olive cap and canvas jacket leans close to Grandma in her soft grey sweater. Both are laughing at something private. Perched right at their knees, plush and watchful, is Misty, the blue-grey Russian Blue, her green eyes turned toward the open land as though she is keeping an eye on the whole farm.
The Russian Blue's dense double coat stands out from the body and feels unusually plush, which gives the breed its soft, almost velvety look. That coat is easy to maintain. A weekly brushing usually keeps it in great condition and doubles as a calm bonding ritual. Russian Blues also tend to thrive on routine and predictable surroundings, so a cat who travels outside the home does best with familiar people close by. If a cat spends any time near vehicles, always do a quick check under and around the truck before driving, since cats like to tuck themselves into sheltered spots.
Some couples share decades of sunsets on a tailgate. This pair has added one more member to the tradition, and judging by her posture, Misty fully intends to keep her seat for many more evenings to come.
