Grandpa Took His First Sip of Morning Coffee. Domino Had One Big Hope.

AI imagetuxedo catmorning coffeefront porch

The porch boards are weathered gray and scattered with autumn leaves, and the morning air looks crisp enough to warrant a second cup. Grandpa sits on the bottom step in his worn work boots, eyes closed as he savors that first sip from a plain beige mug. Right beside him, Domino sits with his tail curled neatly around his paws, head tipped back and gaze locked on the coffee. His expression is pure hope, as if this might finally be the morning he gets a taste.

He won't, and that's for good reason. Caffeine is toxic to cats and dogs, and their small bodies are far more sensitive to it than ours. Coffee, tea, energy drinks, and even coffee grounds or used pods can cause restlessness, a racing heart, vomiting, and more serious problems. The same goes for chocolate. It's a good idea to keep mugs out of reach, avoid leaving half-finished cups on low tables, and dispose of grounds where pets can't dig into them. If you suspect your pet has gotten into caffeine, call your vet or a pet poison hotline promptly. A cat-safe treat or a little extra attention makes a much better morning ritual.

Domino will have to settle for the company, and honestly, that seems to be what he came for. The porch is quiet, the garden is turning gold, and the day hasn't asked anything of them yet.

Every good morning starts slow. This one starts with coffee and a cat.
