Ruth and Harold Got Cozy Under the Quilt by the Fire. Saffron Climbed Right on Top.
A fire crackles in the old brick fireplace, and the room is filled with that soft, flickering winter glow. Harold and Ruth are snuggled up together on the couch beneath a patchwork quilt in rusty reds, creams, and plaids. Harold, in a green flannel shirt and glasses, smiles warmly, while Ruth leans in beside him in a cream cardigan with her silver hair pinned up, looking utterly content. Right on top of the quilt, as if she owns the whole arrangement, sits Saffron, upright and regal, gazing toward the fire with her large ears and golden-green eyes catching the light. A mug sits on the side table, and a little succulent decorates the mantel.
Cats are drawn to warm spots, and a quilt-covered lap near a fireplace is about as cozy as it gets. Still, open flames and pets require care. A sturdy fireplace screen keeps curious cats away from sparks, embers, and hot surfaces, and a cat should never be left alone in a room with a burning fire. Candles are another common hazard, since a swishing tail can tip one over or catch fire. Also keep in mind that ash and soot can irritate a cat's paws and get licked off during grooming, so cleaning up the hearth regularly is a good habit.
Saffron looks entirely satisfied with her position: warm, elevated, and centered between her two favorite people.
Outside, the cold can do as it pleases. In here, there is a fire, a quilt, and a cat who knows she has found the best seat in the house.
