Abuela Carmen Fell Asleep in Front of the TV. Mango Took Over From There.
The TV has been talking to itself for a while now. Abuela Carmen has drifted off in her plush beige recliner, head tipped back against a knit pillow, eyes closed, her floral apron still tied over a cozy sweater. Stretched along the wide armrest, Mango stays wide awake, his long orange fur fluffed, front paws crossed neatly over the edge, his fluffy tail draped down the side. His amber eyes look straight ahead with calm authority, as if he's on watch duty and takes the job seriously. A basket of blankets, a side table with a mug, and a potted plant fill the quiet living room.
Recliners are a cozy favorite for people and pets alike, but they deserve a quick safety note. The footrest mechanism underneath can trap or injure a cat who has crawled inside or is lying beneath the chair, and power recliners can be especially risky. Before closing or adjusting a recliner, it's a good habit to check underneath and around it for paws and tails. Some owners block the space under the chair or teach cats to stay on top instead. Keeping a cozy blanket on the armrest, as Mango seems to prefer, gives a cat a safe, comfortable perch close to their person.
Carmen is getting a well-earned nap, and Mango has her covered. Whatever is on TV, it can wait. In this living room, the most important thing happening is a peaceful afternoon and a loyal cat keeping it that way.
