Grandpa Ken Spread a Blanket on the Lawn for Just a Few Minutes of Sun
Out on the lawn, a pale blanket has been spread over the grass, and it did not take long for both of its occupants to fall asleep. Grandpa Ken lies on his side in a cream sweater vest and blue shirt, his glasses slightly askew, cheek resting on a folded throw. Curled into the curve of his body is Mochi, her silver and tan coat tousled, nose tucked toward her paws, eyes peacefully closed. Around them the yard keeps its own quiet company: a pair of slippers kicked off in the grass, a green hose in loose loops, a basket holding gardening gloves, a clay pot, and a scattering of dry leaves.
Lounging outdoors with a dog is one of life's easy pleasures, and a little planning keeps it worry free. Ticks and fleas can hide in grass, leaf litter, and garden borders, so many owners run their hands through their dog's coat after yard time, checking around the ears, armpits, and between the toes. Long, silky coats like a Yorkie's can make small hitchhikers harder to spot, so a careful comb-through helps. Year-round parasite prevention is something to discuss with your vet, since needs vary by region. On warm days, choose a shady spot and keep water close, because small dogs can overheat quickly in direct sun.
For this pair, though, the only thing on the agenda is rest. The breeze stirs the leaves, the afternoon slides by, and two old friends breathe in rhythm on a blanket in the grass.
