Frank and Dottie Dozed Off on the Porch Swing. They Weren't the Only Ones.
Nap time has claimed the entire household. Up on the wooden porch swing, Frank and Dottie lean against each other in matching cream cable-knit sweaters, heads tilted together, eyes closed, hands resting in their laps. The ropes hang still. Down on the lawn in the foreground, Biscuit has stretched out in the grass with his chin on the ground and his eyes squeezed shut, big ears relaxed and his red and white coat glowing in the soft light. Behind them, potted plants and a green watering can sit by the porch steps, and the whole yard feels hushed.
Dogs often sync their rest with the household rhythm, so it's no surprise Biscuit dozes off when his people do. Adult dogs sleep a large part of the day, and Corgis, despite their busy herding background, are happy to rest once their exercise needs are met. When dogs nap outdoors, it's worth watching the temperature. Corgis have a thick double coat and can overheat in the sun, so shade and water are important on warm days. Grass can also hide ticks and fleas, so regular checks and a prevention plan from your vet keep naps worry-free.
No one seems in any hurry to wake up, and honestly, why would they? Some afternoons are simply meant for slowing all the way down. A soft blanket on the swing and a cool patch of grass for the dog make the setup just about perfect.
