Frank and Dottie Lay Down on the Grass for a Minute. Nobody Got Back Up.
Somewhere between a stroll in the yard and a little rest on the grass, everybody fell asleep. Frank and Dottie lie side by side on the lawn in their matching cream cable-knit sweaters, heads tipped together and eyes peacefully closed. Curled up against them is Biscuit, his fluffy red and white body tucked close, chin on the grass and eyes shut tight. A few blades of grass cling to his coat. Behind them, a gray-blue house with potted geraniums, a cluttered patio with sandals and garden tools, and a tall fence frame the quiet late-afternoon scene.
Napping together is one of the simple pleasures of life with a dog. Dogs often seek physical closeness with their people while they sleep, which is a sign of trust and attachment. For older adults, quiet companionship like this can be a comforting part of everyday life, and many people find the presence of a calm pet relaxing. If you rest outdoors with your dog, choose a spot in the shade, keep water nearby, and watch out for insects. Afterward, give everyone a quick check for ticks, especially if the grass is tall or the yard borders wooded areas.
Nobody seems in a rush to get up, and the afternoon is in no hurry either. Some of the best moments in a long life together happen right on the lawn.
