Bev Opened the Book and Started Reading. One Paw Joined In.
Soft window light pours across the living room as Bev and Harold share a book on the couch, heads tilted toward the same page. Bev holds the open cover with a delighted smile, and Harold leans in over his glasses, clearly enjoying the story. Tucked neatly into the space between them, Duchess lies like a fluffy cream pillow, her dark seal mask and ears turned toward Harold, her blue eyes half open and peaceful. One chocolate paw rests on the edge of the page as though she's helping hold the book steady. Knit blankets drape over the cushions, and a mug and a houseplant sit on the table by the window.
Ragdolls are often called 'lap cats' for good reason. They tend to be calm, affectionate, and happy to settle near their people for long, quiet stretches, which makes them a lovely fit for relaxed households. They usually aren't big climbers or jumpers compared to some breeds, preferring floors and furniture to high shelves. Even so, every Ragdoll needs daily play to stay fit and engaged. Short sessions with feather wands or rolling toys a couple of times a day help prevent boredom and weight gain, especially in a cat who loves the couch as much as Duchess does.
Whether the story is a mystery or a romance, Duchess is happy just being in the middle of it. The best seat in the house is, after all, between your two favorite people.
