Every Morning, Opal Takes Her Coffee to the Front Steps. She's Never Alone.
Mornings start the same way at Opal's house: a hot mug of coffee, a seat on the worn front steps, and a few quiet minutes before the day begins. She sits wrapped in a cozy blue cardigan, eyes closed as she takes the first sip, steam curling up toward her glasses and grey curls. Butterscotch sits right beside her hip, tail tucked around his paws, his big amber eyes wide and alert as he surveys the yard. His long ginger fur glows warm against the weathered white boards. Garden gloves, a mesh bag of bulbs, a potted plant, and a row of tools lean against the house behind them.
Sharing a morning routine with a pet can be a gentle, grounding start to the day, and many cats thrive on predictability. They often learn exactly when their people wake, eat, and sit in their favorite spots, and they'll show up right on schedule. Coffee is one thing not to share, though. Caffeine is toxic to cats and dogs, and even a few licks from a mug or spilled grounds can cause symptoms like restlessness or a racing heart. Keep mugs out of reach and dispose of used grounds and pods where curious pets can't get to them.
Opal will finish her coffee slowly, and Butterscotch will stay right where he is. It's a small, simple ritual, and they both seem to love it.
