Grandpa Only Wanted to Wash His Old Car. Then Copper Spotted the Hose.
The old silver sedan has seen better decades, but Grandpa Hank still gives it a proper wash. He stands in the wet driveway in his plaid shirt and overalls, thumb over the end of the hose, sending a fan of water across the front bumper. Copper has completely forgotten about the car. The Husky is mid-leap, front paws off the ground, mouth wide open in pure delight as he snaps at the spray. Blue sponges sit lined up on the hood, a bucket of suds waits at Hank's feet, and the gray sky and bare trees suggest a cool autumn day.
Plenty of dogs go wild for a garden hose, and it is easy to see the appeal. Moving water is unpredictable, sparkly, and fun to chase, which taps right into a dog's play and prey instincts. Hose games can be a great way to burn off energy, especially for a breed as lively as a Husky. Keep the pressure gentle and never aim directly at a dog's face, ears, or nose. Make sure soapy car-wash water stays out of reach, since detergents and automotive products are not meant to be swallowed. On cooler days, dry your dog off afterward so a damp coat does not leave him chilled.
Hank's smile says he planned for this. A car wash with Copper around was never going to be a quick or dry affair.
The car may come out a little cleaner, but the Husky is definitely coming out happier.
