Grandpa Ken Drove Out to Watch the Sunrise. Mochi Had Her Own Way to Say Thanks.
Morning mist hangs over the open field, and the light is soft and golden as Grandpa Ken sits on the lowered tailgate of his old truck. He wears a tan argyle sweater vest over a collared shirt and khaki trousers, glasses glinting, and he is smiling down at Mochi with pure tenderness. The little cream Havanese has propped her front paws up on the tailgate beside him, and Ken cradles her fluffy chin in one hand. She gazes up at him with dark, adoring eyes. Tall grass, a weathered fence post, and distant trees stretch out behind them.
Havanese are adaptable little dogs that are happy in the city or the country, as long as they are with their people. Outings in fields and open spaces are great for exercise and enrichment, but they come with a few things to check. Tall grass can hide ticks and burrs, which tangle easily in a Havanese's long coat, so a quick comb-through and tick check after country walks is a smart habit. Your vet can recommend appropriate parasite prevention. Small dogs should also be lifted onto and off of high surfaces like tailgates rather than jumping, to protect their joints.
This is a quiet moment of pure connection. Ken's gentle hand and Mochi's upturned face say more than words could.
The day ahead might be busy, but this sunrise belongs to just the two of them.
