Abuela Rosa Held Up the Little Yellow Ball. Chispa Didn't Just Look at It.
Who says fetch is only for dogs? Abuela Rosa is holding a small yellow ball high above the garden path, laughing as Chispa launches straight up after it. The grey Sphynx is fully airborne, stretched long on her hind legs, front paws reaching, ears pinned forward, eyes locked on the prize. Rosa's sunglasses are pushed up into her silver hair, and her flowered apron is dusted from an afternoon in the yard. Behind them, a clothesline of bright laundry hangs along the fence, a blue watering can sits by the planters, and tomato plants and leafy greens fill the raised beds.
Plenty of cats enjoy games that look a lot like fetch, and the Sphynx is often mentioned as one of the more playful, dog-like breeds. Many will chase small balls, bring toys back, or leap after wand toys with real enthusiasm. Play like this is great exercise and helps burn off energy that might otherwise go into mischief. Choose toys too large to swallow, and put away string or ribbon toys after supervised sessions. Outdoors, keep play in shaded, enclosed areas, since hairless cats can sunburn and any cat can dart off when startled. Short, frequent sessions tend to work better than one long marathon.
Chispa might not bring the ball back every single time, but that leap says she's all in. Rosa clearly wouldn't trade this backyard game for anything.
