Eggs, Avocado, Warm Tortillas. Chispa Wanted Something Else From the Breakfast Table.
Breakfast on the patio is a generous spread: sliced avocado and scrambled eggs on a white plate, warm tortillas, a dish of black beans, a cup of coffee with milk, and a glass of water catching the morning light. Abuela Rosa, in her rose-print apron, has paused mid-meal to give her table companion a little attention. Chispa sits upright on the edge of the table with her face pressed into Rosa's fingers, eyes half shut in pure bliss as she enjoys a slow chin scratch. Potted succulents and herbs line the patio wall behind them, and a pile of folded laundry waits on a nearby chair.
Chin and cheek scratches are a favorite for many cats because they have scent glands on their faces, and rubbing against a person is one way they mark someone as family. Sphynx cats are especially known for loving touch and close contact. While sharing breakfast is sweet in spirit, a few items on this plate shouldn't be shared. Onion, garlic, and heavily seasoned foods can be harmful to cats, and rich, fatty foods can upset their stomachs. Plain cooked egg in a tiny amount is sometimes offered as a treat, but it's best to ask your vet before adding new foods.
For now, Chispa seems more interested in the scratches than the eggs. That might be the sweetest part of the morning menu.
