Abuela Rosa Put On Her Favorite Old Record. Chispa Had Her Own Way of Listening.
A record turns slowly on the turntable behind her, a stack of well-loved albums leaning on the shelf below, and Abuela Rosa has settled into her chair to listen. Her eyes crinkle in a deep, happy smile as she gazes down at Chispa, who is cuddled against her lavender sweater and flowered apron. The grey Sphynx tips her wrinkled face up toward Rosa, golden eyes soft, front paws resting on her arm. Family photos hang on the wall, a knitted throw is draped over the couch, and a small potted plant and a mug sit on a side table in the gentle afternoon light.
Many cats tolerate music well, and some even seem to relax with calm, soft tunes playing at a moderate volume. Cats have very sensitive hearing, though, so loud or sudden sounds can make them uneasy, and it's kind to give them a way to leave the room if they want. For a Sphynx, a listening session like this has a bonus: it means lap time. These cats are known for craving warmth and touch, and a cozy cuddle with their person is often their favorite activity of the day. Regular handling also gives owners a chance to check their cat's skin, ears, and nails.
The record will end eventually, and someone will have to get up and flip it. Judging by Chispa's expression, she'd prefer that Rosa take her time.
