Grandpa Earl Stopped by the Farmers Market. Nobody Was Looking at the Vegetables.
The farmers market is in full swing, with tables piled high with leafy lettuce, cucumbers, onions, oranges, jars of preserves, and baskets of garlic under burlap-draped stalls. Grandpa Earl, in his olive cap and fishing vest, has paused between booths with a wry little smile. Beside him stands Domino, the harlequin Great Dane, his enormous spotted head filling the foreground, ears relaxed, warm amber eyes looking right into the camera. He's wearing a brown leather collar and the calm, slightly bemused expression of a dog who has attracted plenty of admiring glances already this morning.
Bringing a dog to a busy market takes some preparation, especially when that dog is the size of a Great Dane. A good-fitting collar or harness, a short leash, and solid training to sit, stay, and walk calmly are essential in crowded spaces. Many markets have their own pet policies, so it's smart to check ahead. Big dogs can draw a crowd of friendly strangers, which is lovely if your dog enjoys it but can be overwhelming for some. Watch for dropped food, especially onions, grapes, and anything heavily seasoned, and bring water on warm days.
Domino may not be shopping for produce, but he's clearly enjoying the outing. For Earl, a trip to the market is twice as fun with his big spotted sidekick in tow.
