Grandpa Earl Made a Big Bowl of Popcorn for Movie Night. Domino Found It First.
Movie night is underway, and Grandpa Earl has settled onto the couch with a big ceramic bowl of fresh popcorn in his lap. He's smiling down with a knowing grin under his white mustache, because he can already guess what's about to happen. Domino has leaned his huge harlequin head right over the bowl, black nose hovering just above the fluffy white kernels, eyes half closed as he takes a long, appreciative sniff. A remote sits on the cushion nearby, and blankets are piled on the chair across the cozy room, where soft light filters in through the curtained window.
Popcorn is a snack many dog owners wonder about. Plain, air-popped popcorn without butter, salt, or seasonings is generally considered okay for dogs in small amounts. Movie-style popcorn is a different story; butter, oil, salt, and flavorings can upset a dog's stomach, and too much salt isn't healthy. Unpopped and partly popped kernels are hard enough to crack teeth or become a choking hazard, and hulls can get stuck in gums. If you'd like to share, set aside a few plain, fully popped pieces before adding toppings. For a giant breed, a few kernels are a tiny treat.
Earl might be persuaded to part with a piece or two. With a face like that hovering over the bowl, it's hard to imagine him saying no.
