Otis Set Out Breakfast on the Patio. Mocha Came to Supervise.
Breakfast is served outdoors this morning, and the patio is full of soft sunlight and leafy plants. Otis wears a cream cardigan over a blue shirt, glasses sliding down his nose, and he looks down at Mocha with a wide, delighted smile. On the table sit a half-eaten slice of avocado toast topped with tomato, a mug of something hot, a folded green napkin, and a bowl of strawberries and blueberries. Mocha has parked herself right beside the table with her blue eyes tilted up toward him and one white paw resting lightly on the edge, as if she is politely waiting for an invitation. A striped cushion sits on the bench behind them.
Mealtime manners are a common challenge with cats who love to be near their people. It helps to feed your cat her own breakfast at the same time you eat, so she has something to do. Many human foods are fine in small amounts, but some are unsafe. Onions, garlic, chocolate, and grapes should stay far from a cat, and rich or salty foods can upset her stomach. If you are unsure about a particular food, talk to your vet. Cats are also creatures of routine, so a regular morning schedule makes them feel secure and cuts down on pleading at the table.
Mocha has not touched a single berry, and she looks very pleased with her own restraint. Otis seems to be enjoying the morning and the company in equal measure.
