Harold and Bea Kicked Off Their Shoes at the Dock. Peanut Had One Job.
Shoes are off, and the water is right below their toes. Harold and Bea sit close together on the edge of a weathered wooden dock, both in soft gray cable-knit sweaters, bare feet dangling over the dark, still water. Bea leans her head toward Harold's shoulder with a gentle smile, and Harold grins like he just told a joke only she would appreciate. Peanut stands on the dock planks next to Bea, looking up at her with complete devotion, a brown collar around her neck. Behind them, a pale house, green shrubs, and a garden glow in soft evening light.
Docks and water can be risky for small dogs. Chihuahuas are tiny and many are not strong swimmers, and cold water can chill them quickly because of their size. Even a dog that never goes near the edge can slip on wet boards. A well-fitted dog life jacket is a smart idea for any time near open water, and keeping little dogs on a leash or in your lap on a dock adds peace of mind. Fresh drinking water is better than letting them sip from the lake, which can carry algae or bacteria.
Peanut seems far more interested in her people than in the water, which suits everyone just fine. Harold and Bea have their quiet evening, their cool toes, and their small, loyal guardian watching over them.
