Harold and Bea Thought They Were Leading the Evening Walk. Peanut Disagreed.
Out in front, ears flopping and leash swinging, Peanut is very much in charge of this walk. Harold and Bea follow arm in arm down a narrow country lane, both in matching cream cable-knit sweaters and jeans, Bea smiling up at Harold as they stroll. The fawn Chihuahua trots ahead with her mouth open in a happy pant, fluffy tail up, clearly delighted to be setting the pace. Wooden fence posts line the road, tall grass leans in from both sides, and soft rolling fields fade into a hazy evening sky.
Chihuahuas may be tiny, but they still need daily walks for exercise, mental stimulation, and confidence. Short, regular outings usually suit them better than long hikes, especially in cold or very hot weather, since small bodies lose and gain heat quickly. Many owners prefer a harness over a collar for tiny breeds to reduce pressure on the neck and trachea. Walks like this are good for their people too. A gentle evening stroll together offers fresh air, light activity, and conversation, all without anyone needing to set a fast pace.
Harold and Bea do not seem to be going anywhere in particular, and that is the beauty of it. With the light fading and Peanut leading the way, the road feels like it could go on forever.
