Harold and Bea Just Wanted a Quiet Coffee on the Steps. Peanut Had the Spotlight in Mind.
Up close and slightly out of focus at the edges, Peanut has stepped right into the frame. The fawn Chihuahua sits on the front step in the foreground, soft ears angled out, big glossy eyes gazing off to the side with a look of deep thought. Behind her, Harold and Bea share the porch steps in matching tan cable-knit sweaters, each holding a pale mug of morning coffee. Bea smiles down toward the dog, and Harold watches her over his cup. Potted plants sit along the steps, green grass edges the concrete, and the garden behind glows with early light.
Coffee is one of those household items that should stay well out of reach of pets. Caffeine is toxic to dogs, and because Chihuahuas are so small, even a modest amount from a spilled mug, coffee grounds, or a stray bean can cause problems like restlessness, a racing heart, or vomiting. If a dog gets into coffee, it is best to call the vet right away. Keeping mugs on a table rather than on the ground and disposing of grounds in a covered bin are simple habits. A morning treat of their own keeps little noses happily occupied.
Peanut does not seem the least bit interested in the coffee anyway. She has the morning air, her people right behind her, and a view of the whole yard. That is more than enough to start a good day.
