Harold and Bea Teamed Up on Pancakes. Peanut Stood Up to Supervise.
Breakfast is happening at the stove, and Peanut refuses to miss it. Harold holds the skillet steady and lifts a golden pancake with a spatula, while Bea leans in beside him with her own spatula, both wearing matching cream sweaters with a navy pattern. They are smiling and focused on getting the flip just right. Below them, Peanut stands up on her hind legs with her front paws planted on the edge of the wooden counter, fluffy ears back and nose aimed straight at the pan. A bowl of batter with a whisk, a stick of butter, a set of keys, and blue towels crowd the counter.
Kitchens can be risky places for small dogs, especially around a hot stove. A paw on the counter can lead to a dog pulling something down, and splashing oil or a dropped pan can cause burns. Teaching a reliable sit or go to your mat cue keeps little ones safely out of the cooking zone. As for treats, a small bite of a plain pancake is unlikely to harm most healthy dogs, but syrup, chocolate chips, and blueberry-filled extras with lots of sugar are best skipped. Butter in quantity can upset sensitive stomachs too.
Harold and Bea look like they have done this together a thousand times, and Peanut clearly has her part memorized. With any luck, a tiny plain corner of that first pancake will find its way down to the most dedicated kitchen helper.
