Grandpa Gus Took His Coffee Outside. Pudding Scooted Right Up Beside Him.
Early light falls across the porch steps, where Grandpa Gus sits with a tan mug raised to his lips and his eyes half closed in the steam. His red plaid shirt is buttoned up and his white hair is still a bit untidy. Pressed against his side sits Pudding, his round face turned up toward the sky as though he is also enjoying the breeze. Behind them is a patch of lawn and a fence, a small watering can resting by the step. A gentle breeze lifts the hair on the cat's neck, and a single bird sings somewhere beyond the fence, the only other sound in the morning.
Coffee is a good habit for people but not for pets. Caffeine is harmful to cats and dogs, so keep mugs out of reach and clean up any spills right away. A calm routine like a quiet morning with a cat helps many people begin the day gently, and cats tend to love predictable schedules. Persians in particular do well with calm routines and low-key company. A fresh bowl of water and his breakfast at the same time every day can help him feel secure and settled.
Morning is the best part of the day for porch sitters. Gus has his coffee, Pudding has his spot, and the yard is just waking up. Neither one has anywhere else to be.
