Grandpa Gus Rocked Gently. Pudding Slept Like Nothing Else Mattered.
Late light spills through a lace curtain onto a wooden floor, where Pudding lies curled on a woven rug, his cream fur fanned out and his flat face tucked against his paws. Behind him, Grandpa Gus rocks in an old wooden chair with his hands resting loosely and a gentle smile on his lips. A mug sits on the table beside a stack of magazines, and a plant leans into the window light. A scatter of cream hairs on the rug shows where he has been lying for a while, and the whole room feels hushed and happily unhurried.
Persians are known as calm, easygoing cats that are happy to spend long stretches dozing. Cats generally sleep many hours a day, and a safe quiet spot near a favorite person is often the most comforting place for them. If you are rocking in a chair, watch for a tail or paw under the runners, and rock gently if a cat is sleeping close. Regular companionship from a pet can be a pleasant part of an older adult's day, giving structure and quiet company. If your cat's sleeping habits change suddenly, mention it to your vet.
Nothing here needs to happen, and that is the whole point. Gus rocks slowly, and Pudding breathes in and out. The room is warm, and the afternoon drifts.
