Earl Hummed an Old Song in the Kitchen. Maple Couldn't Hold Back Her Grin.
Earl leans over with a smile as wide as the kitchen itself, one hand reaching for his dog, gray hair catching the window light. Maple the red Shiba Inu stands in front of him with her mouth open in a delighted, panting grin, her curled tail up behind her and her leather collar glinting. Behind them, kitchen cabinets, a blue dish towel and a bowl of oranges set the scene. It looks like a spin across the floor has just ended, or is about to begin.
Kitchen dancing is a delightful way to move and have fun, and for a dog it counts as play. Shiba Inus are agile, bouncy dogs that love activity, and they usually enjoy interactive time with their people. When you are dancing around a dog, mind the paws: step carefully so you don't trip over her, and keep a clear path so she can step away if she wants to. Hard floors can be slippery for both of you, so non-slip footwear is helpful for people. Dogs also pick up on your mood, so a happy tune often leads to a happy dog.
Maple's wide grin is the verdict. She has decided this is the best dance partner in the neighborhood and she is not ready to stop. Earl, light on his feet, is glad to keep going.
