Earl Was Rinsing the Car When Maple Went After the Hose

AI imagered shiba inucar washgarden hose

Water arcs across the driveway and Earl, leaning over the side of the car with a blue cloth in hand, watches it with a grin. His green cardigan sleeve is damp and his glasses slide down his nose. In the middle of the splash is Maple the red Shiba Inu, front paws up in a hop, mouth wide open as she snaps at the stream, her tail curled and her fur shining with water. Trash bins, a hedge and a neat little porch frame the scene in the background.

Dogs love water games, and a hose is a classic favorite. Shibas are energetic and playful, so this can be a good way to cool down on a warm day. A few small cautions help: keep the spray gentle and away from her face, and don't aim it into her mouth for long, since swallowing a lot of water quickly can upset the stomach. Car-wash soap, wax and the puddles around cars can contain chemicals that are harmful if licked, and antifreeze is especially dangerous. Rinse the driveway, and dry her off afterward, especially in cool weather. If she licks something she shouldn't, call your vet.

Maple is having the time of her life, mid-air and fearless. Earl is soaked at the elbows and does not seem to mind. The car will get clean, eventually.
