Grandpa Otis Wanted a Cuddle in the Pumpkin Patch. Bruno Was on Duty.
Pumpkins dot the yard like little orange lanterns, nestled among drying vines and brown autumn leaves. Grandpa Otis, wearing a cream cable-knit cardigan over a blue shirt and his round glasses, is bending down with a wide, delighted grin to give Bruno a pat. Bruno stands front and center in his black harness, his brindle face wrinkled and serious, staring off at something only he can see. His expression says he's on patrol, even if his grandpa's hand says it's time for a cuddle. A wooden fence, a pale house, and a grey October sky frame the cozy, slightly overgrown garden.
Flat-faced breeds like French Bulldogs are known as brachycephalic, which means their short muzzles can make breathing harder, especially during heat or heavy exercise. Cool fall weather is often their favorite time for longer strolls, but it's still smart to keep walks moderate, watch for loud or labored breathing, and offer breaks. Many owners prefer a harness over a collar for these breeds, since it avoids pressure on the throat. If your Frenchie snores loudly, tires very fast, or struggles to catch their breath, those are good things to mention to your vet.
Sweater weather, a yard full of pumpkins, and a dog who takes guard duty very seriously. Otis seems to be enjoying the season, and Bruno seems to be enjoying the important job of watching over it.
