Frank and Ruth Were Stuck on the Crossword. Then Domino Put His Paw Down.
Frank has his pen hovering over a crossword grid, and Ruth is leaning in with her reading glasses on, ready to offer the answer he has clearly been missing. Between them sits Domino, a black and white pied French Bulldog with enormous bat ears, one paw planted on the table right next to the puzzle as if he has a clue of his own to contribute. A mug of tea, a bowl of fruit, a stack of toast, and a spare pair of glasses fill the worn wooden table, while potted herbs and jars line the shelves of the sunny kitchen behind them.
French Bulldogs are famous for wanting to be exactly where their people are, which is why so many of them end up wedged into breakfast routines like this one. They are companion dogs through and through: generally calm indoors, happy with modest daily walks, and more interested in a lap than a long hike. Their flat faces mean they can struggle with heat and heavy exercise, so cool rooms, short outings in warm weather, and a watchful eye on breathing are part of good Frenchie care. They also tend to gain weight easily, so it is best to resist those pleading eyes when toast crumbs are on offer. Talk to your vet about a healthy weight and diet for your own dog.
Whether Domino actually knows a seven-letter word for loyal is anyone's guess. But judging by the way Ruth is smiling at him, he has already earned full credit just for showing up to help.
