Earl Warmed Up the Old Truck. Pewter Claimed the Best Seat in It.

The old pickup truck has seen plenty of miles, with its cracked steering wheel, bare door panel, and bench seat worn by years of use. Earl sits behind the wheel with a relaxed grin, keys dangling and his fishing vest bristling with gear. In the passenger seat, Pewter sits very upright, front and center, and stares straight ahead with wide golden eyes like a copilot reading the road. Behind them, boxes and canvas totes fill the garage shelves, so the truck seems to be parked rather than moving.

Riding in a vehicle is not every cat's idea of fun, and the safest way to travel with a cat is inside a secure carrier, ideally buckled in or wedged where it cannot slide. A loose cat in a car can distract the driver, get under the pedals, or bolt out when a door opens. If a cat is new to travel, help her get used to the carrier at home first by leaving it open with a soft blanket inside, and start with very short trips. Never leave a cat alone in a parked vehicle, because temperatures climb fast. Russian Blues tend to be calm and adaptable once they feel secure, but each cat is an individual. Ask your vet about tips for stress-free trips, especially if your cat seems anxious.

Earl likes to say a drive is better with a friend. Pewter has taken the job of watching the road very seriously.
