Grandpa Raked the Leaves Into a Pile and Pearl Saw an Opportunity
Grandpa has been raking for a while, and the leaves are piled just right when Pearl arrives like a small white tornado. She is mid-bounce with her front paws lifted and her ears flying, her brown collar bright against the orange and yellow leaves. Grandpa grips the rake and watches with a delighted grin, his cardigan buttoned against the autumn chill. In the background a garden hose, a watering can, and a pair of boots sit by the back steps. The yard is a patchwork of reds and golds, and every leaf seems to be falling at once.
Leaf piles are a treat for dogs, but a couple of precautions help. Damp leaves can hide sharp sticks, burrs, or even mold, so it is smart to check the pile before a big romp and brush your dog's coat afterward. Poodles, with their curly fur, can collect a surprising number of twigs and seeds. A quick brushing session after outdoor play keeps tangles away, and it is a nice chance to check paws for anything stuck between the toes.
Raking was supposed to be the serious part of the afternoon, but Grandpa does not look the least bit bothered. A neat pile is nice, though a happy Poodle in the middle of it is even better. The leaves can be raked again tomorrow. Pearl, for her part, is already eyeing the next pile.
