Grandpa Took a Break on the Tailgate and Pearl Joined Him
A pickup's tailgate makes a fine bench, and Grandpa has settled onto it with a pleased smile. His cream cardigan is cozy, his glasses sit neatly on his nose, and the green field behind him stretches off to a line of trees. Pearl the white Poodle sits close beside him with her paws up on his arm, looking at him with warm, bright eyes. The truck's dark paint and the soft gray sky give the scene a peaceful, country feel. A faint breeze moves through the crops, and the afternoon feels long and golden.
Road trips and truck rides can be a joy for dogs, but safety comes first. A dog should ride in a secure crate or with a harness that attaches to a seat belt, and never loose in a truck bed. Stop regularly for water and bathroom breaks, and never leave a dog in a parked vehicle in warm weather. Poodles love being included in outings, and with a bit of preparation, the open road can be fun for them too. Dogs also appreciate a familiar blanket on the seat.
Pearl would probably follow Grandpa anywhere, and today the destination is a quiet field. They are not in a hurry, just enjoying the view and each other. A cool breeze and a good friend make a perfect rest stop. Tomorrow can sort itself out.
