Grandpa Washed the Car and Pip Took Charge of the Hose
Grandpa leans over the silver sedan with a sponge in one hand and a streaming hose in the other, laughing as water flies in every direction. Pip bounds through the puddle beside him, tail up, mouth open, trying to bite the arcing stream. A blue bucket of suds, a pair of work gloves, and a leaning broom crowd the driveway.
The car glistens, the pavement is soaked, and Pip's coat is dripping from nose to tail. She looks absolutely thrilled to be part of the job, even though she is mostly in the way.
Many dogs adore chasing water from a hose, and it is a great way to cool off. Still, keep soap, car-wash products, and chemicals out of paw's reach, because they can irritate skin and upset a dog's stomach if licked. Rinse off any suds from her coat and dry her with a towel afterward, especially if her hair is long, so she stays comfortable. Keep her away from the wheels and any moving vehicles, and watch the temperature so she does not get chilled. If she seems to have a skin reaction, check in with your vet.
The car will dry in the sun. Pip will take longer, and she will not mind one bit. By the time the last bubble pops, both of them will be drenched, and both will call it a good day.
