Otis Sorted Old Photos and Pepper Inspected Every One
A pile of old snapshots covers the table, and Otis leans over them with his glasses low on his nose, sorting them one by one. Pepper has stretched forward to sniff the edge of the pile, her whiskers brushing the photos and her eyes on the faces in the pictures. Behind them are a window with soft curtains, a basket of folded blankets, and a mug resting beside the stack. A cup of coffee and a ring of keys sit at the edge of the table, and every photo is a story waiting for a good listener.
Looking through old photographs is a pleasant way to spend a quiet afternoon, and many families treasure these moments. A dog is a good companion for it, because her gentle presence invites calm. Just keep paper and photos away from her mouth, since inks and old prints are not meant to be chewed, and keep small items like paper clips and photo corners out of reach. Dogs recognize people by scent as well as sight, and sniffing the photos may be her way of investigating the stories. If your dog likes to help, give her a chew toy while you sort.
Otis smiles at each picture, and Pepper seems to take every one seriously. She may not know who is who, but she has the patience of a good listener. The afternoon belongs to memories and a very curious nose. There is no rush to finish the pile.
