The Basset Hound Had the Plush Bed All to Himself. Then Somebody Moved In.
Those famous Basset eyes say it all: he did not plan to share, but here we are, and honestly it is fine. A tricolor Basset Hound with long velvety ears is sprawled across a round, cream-colored plush bed, his chin resting on the fluffy rim. Snuggled against his back, a white lamb has tucked its head down beside his, eyes half open and perfectly relaxed. Soft light from a nearby window falls across the bed, and a basket of folded blankets sits just out of frame, as if the whole room were arranged for napping.
Basset Hounds are scent hounds with one of the best noses in the dog world, and they are generally known for being mellow, friendly, and good-natured. That laid-back attitude can make them easygoing housemates for other animals. Their long ears need regular cleaning, since they can trap moisture and dirt, and their long backs and short legs mean it is smart to discourage lots of jumping on and off high furniture. Bassets also love to eat and can gain weight easily, so measured meals and daily walks help keep them comfortable. Your vet can suggest a healthy target weight.
Watching these two, you get the sense that the bed has never been more comfortable. The hound brings the patience, the lamb brings the extra fluff, and together they have mastered the art of doing absolutely nothing.
