This Boxer Was Supposed to Be on Guard Duty. His Method Is Unusual.
Guard duty, Boxer style, apparently involves a lot of snoring. A fawn Boxer with a wrinkled brow and a slightly graying muzzle has folded his big body into a low wicker basket lined with a cream cloth. One front leg is draped protectively around a small white lamb, who has nestled its head against his paw and drifted off. The Boxer's eyes are closed, his jowls are squished against the rim, and a couple of tufts of fur stick up on his head like he just woke from an earlier nap. Pale window light and a worn wooden floor complete the hushed scene.
Boxers are often described as playful, bouncy, and endlessly goofy, yet they also have a gentle, protective streak with the family they love. They tend to stay puppy-like for years and need daily exercise to burn off that energy. As they get older, many Boxers slow down and become champion nappers, and a graying face like this one is a sweet sign of a dog in his senior years. Older dogs benefit from soft bedding, regular vet checkups, and exercise that matches their pace, so talk to your vet about how to keep an aging Boxer comfortable.
That basket was clearly not made for a dog this size, and yet he has made it work. Protective, patient, and fast asleep, he is doing the most important job of all: being a warm, steady place for a little friend to rest.
