Golden Straw Everywhere, and Right in the Middle, Two Friends Drifted Off
Golden straw is scattered everywhere, and right in the middle of it, two friends have drifted off to sleep. A dark red Golden Retriever lies with its head down in the hay, silky mahogany coat shining in the soft window light, eyes closed in peaceful slumber. Curled against its neck, a little cream baby goat with velvety ears has tucked its head into the dog's thick fur, fast asleep too. Bits of hay cling to the Golden's ears and muzzle, and a basket of blankets and a metal bowl sit by the old barn wall behind them.
Golden Retrievers come in a range of shades, from pale cream to this deep, rich red. Whatever their color, they're known for their gentle mouths, patient temperaments, and eagerness to please, which helps explain why many get along well with other animals. They do need regular exercise and plenty of social time, as they can become bored or anxious when left alone too long. Their dense, water-repellent coat sheds quite a bit and benefits from brushing several times a week, especially after rolling around in hay or straw, which can tangle in the feathering. Check ears and paws after barn time, since stray bits of plant material can cause irritation.
There's nothing quite like a nap in the hay with a trusted friend. These two look like they could sleep through the entire afternoon, and perhaps they should.
