Somebody Wheeled the Wheelbarrow Inside. Now It's a Very Full Carriage.

Somebody wheeled the wheelbarrow inside, and it has turned into a very full carriage. A brown tabby with striking amber eyes and a tidy striped coat sits upright in the middle of a worn metal wheelbarrow, gazing off with an alert, almost startled look. All around him, eight yellow ducklings are tucked into the straw, some leaning against his sides, others looking up at him as if waiting for instructions. Warm golden light pours in from the windows behind, across a wooden floor, a pair of blue sneakers, a basket, and a potted plant by the wall.

Ducklings are social creatures right from the start, and they are happiest in a group. A single duckling raised alone is likely to be lonely and stressed, often peeping loudly and constantly looking for company. That is why people who raise ducks usually recommend keeping at least two or three together. As they grow, ducks continue to rely on their flock for safety and comfort, foraging, napping, and even preening side by side. While a gentle pet may offer some extra warmth or interest, it cannot replace other ducks, who speak the same language and share the same routines.

Luckily, these ducklings have plenty of each other, plus one very surprised-looking tabby as a bonus. The cat may not have planned to spend his afternoon in a wheelbarrow full of peeping fluff, but he does not seem to be in any hurry to leave.
