A Wrinkly Puppy Disappeared Into a Pony's Soft, Shaggy Coat
A shaggy cream pony has settled onto a sage-green couch with her head resting on the arm, eyes closed. Curled in the nest of her woolly coat is a brindle puppy with a wrinkled face, one small paw peeking out. The two make one fluffy shape. Behind them are a cup, a stack of books, folded blankets and a houseplant, giving the room a lived-in feel.
We might call the pony Clover and the puppy Pretzel. Pretzel has found the warmest place in the room, and the pony's thick fur makes a nest around him. The couch is crowded, but nobody is complaining.
Short-nosed puppies like French Bulldogs and Pugs love warm, cozy spots, but they can overheat quickly, so it is important to keep them in cool places and avoid heavy exercise in hot weather. They are affectionate, people-loving dogs that often snore. Ponies, on the other hand, are meant to live outdoors with shelter, and a thick winter coat is nature's insulation. Many animals form close friendships when they live together, and sharing body heat is a common sign of comfort. If you see a small puppy tucked against a larger animal, make sure the puppy can breathe easily and is not trapped.
Pretzel and Clover look like they intend to stay right there for the rest of the afternoon.
