A German Shepherd Puppy and a Pony Napped by the Wood Stove
A black iron wood stove rests against a white wall, a pile of firewood stacked beside it, and on the rug in front lie a German Shepherd puppy and a shaggy pony. The puppy's chin is on his big front paws and his eyes are closed, while the pony's head rests beside his, her dark mane falling over her face. Coats hang on a hook, and soft light fills the room.
We might call the pony Clover and the puppy Rex. The puppy's tan-and-black coat looks sleek next to Clover's shaggy fur, and their ears twitch in time as they dream. It is a peaceful end to a day of playing.
German Shepherd puppies are smart, loyal and energetic, and they thrive on training, exercise and having a job to do. They grow quickly, so ask your vet about suitable puppy food and safe play that protects their joints. If you have a wood stove, use a sturdy safety screen so animals cannot touch the hot surface, and keep ashes and tools out of reach. Ponies are much happier in an outdoor shelter than in a house, but the image of a pony napping by the stove is a charming one. Always keep pets away from open flames.
Rex and Clover are the very picture of contentment, and the fire has only to keep burning.
