A Golden Retriever Puppy Snuggled Up to a Pony by the Fire

AI imageponygolden retrieverfireplace

A fire crackles behind a metal screen in a stone fireplace, and in front of it lie a golden retriever puppy and a shaggy brown pony. The puppy has curled against her shoulder with his chin on her leg and his soft eyes looking toward us, while she has her head turned and her ears relaxed. A folded blanket drapes over the stone mantel, and toys lie on the floor nearby.

We might call the pony Clover and the puppy Sunny. Sunny's coat is the color of butter, and the firelight gives it a warm glow. Clover's thick mane falls in a messy curtain, and she looks very much at ease.

Golden Retriever puppies are friendly, gentle and eager to please. They love people and usually get along well with other animals. They are also mouthy puppies who chew on everything, so provide safe toys. If you have a fireplace, make sure there is a sturdy screen so pets cannot get burned or catch a spark, and never leave them alone near an open fire. Ponies are much happier living outdoors with shelter, but it is lovely to imagine one by the hearth. Cold nights call for warm blankets and plenty of fresh water for everyone.

Sunny and Clover look like the best of friends on the coziest evening of the year.
