A Husky Took a Careful Sip While the Kittens Crowded Around the Bowl
A red-and-white Siberian Husky leans over a cream-colored bowl on the floor, his tongue just touching the water. Around the bowl are four kittens, ginger, white, gray tabby and black-and-white, all crowding in close to drink or peer in. A warm lamp, boxes and a plant sit in the corner of the cozy, cluttered room. The bowl is nearly empty by the end, but nobody seems to mind.
We can call the Husky Copper. He drinks politely and leaves room, and the kittens gather round him as if he were the leader of the pack. Nobody pushes, and everyone gets a turn. The little ones lap quickly, and he waits.
Fresh water is important for pets of all ages, and it should be changed daily and the bowl washed often. Kittens begin to drink water as they start eating solid food, and shallow, wide bowls are easier for them. Siberian Huskies are active, energetic dogs that drink often, especially after exercise. If you have a shared water bowl, offer several around the house so everyone has access. Some pets are picky about water and prefer a fountain, and your vet can help if you notice a change in drinking habits. Keep bowls out of direct sun, and make sure kittens can reach the water easily.
Copper and the kittens are sharing the bowl very politely. It is a small, sweet moment in the middle of the day.
