A Jack Russell Finally Stopped Zooming. Reason Number One: Piglet.

Light from the window turns the room gold, and on a soft grey blanket a Jack Russell Terrier has gone into full guardian mode. His head is lowered, his eyes closed, one tan ear folded, and between his white front paws sleeps a pink piglet, snout tucked, wrinkles on her little forehead, completely at ease. She fits into the space as though it was built for her.

For a dog known for racing around, a Jack Russell can be remarkably tender when he decides someone needs looking after. Terriers form strong bonds, and a dog who has had plenty of exercise is much more likely to settle down like this. Pigs are comfort seekers too, and they usually sleep in tight groups to stay warm and safe, which is why a piglet nestles so readily against a warm body. When a pig and dog share a bed, make sure the bedding is washable and the space is big enough for each to move away if they want. Ask your vet if you have any questions about healthy sleep for a growing piglet.

Let's say the piglet is called Pearl. She has no idea that she is sleeping against one of the most energetic dog breeds around. She only knows that the spot is warm, the paws are strong, and the heartbeat nearby is steady. The Terrier does not stir. Tonight, the zoomies can wait.
